STMC PA December 8, 2024 General Meeting

This meeting, held on December 10, 2024, reviewed the STMC Parents' Association's activities and future plans. Key topics included:

STMC Parent Association Structure and Roles: The PA comprises an Executive Committee and various Committee Leads, with roles including communication, support for school initiatives, volunteer coordination, fundraising, and community building. More information is available via a Google Docs link.
Knight Christmas Market 2024 (KCM): The market was a significant event, with images showing vendor setups, food, and festive decorations. It received sponsorship from Matrix Film and Event Rentals, Starbucks, and Tim Hortons, with coffee and hot chocolate sponsored by Gino's Restaurant through a gift card donation.

Approved Budget Items for Students: The PA approved funds for various student clubs and programs, including Students on Beamline ($2000), Normatec legs for athlete recovery ($2997), Band and Choir bus support ($6000), Learning Resource Centre ($1000 for Nintendo Switch and noise-canceling headphones), Textile Club ($500), and Chess Club ($400).
Upcoming Events and Initiatives:
Walkathon (April 30, 2025): A student-led fundraiser with funds directly benefiting the school, and students will have input on allocation. Aliyah Walji is the lead.

Spring Fair 2025: Discussions are beginning for this community event, and interested parents are encouraged to email stmcpavicepresident@my.stmc.bc.ca.
Mandatory Volunteer Hours: An estimated launch in September 2026, with a working group and parent survey to determine logistics and various volunteering opportunities.
Communications Update: The "PA Scoop" newsletter is sent monthly, and the PA website (stmcpa.ca) is regularly updated by Tom Gianelli. Social media (Facebook and Instagram @stmcpacommunications) and email (stmcpacommunications@my.stmc.bc.ca) are also used for communication.
Decor Committee: Anne Fok and Cliona Ng expressed gratitude to volunteers for creating a fireplace mantle backdrop and Christmas decorations. Rona Morelos was introduced as a new addition to the decorating team.

Looking Ahead (2025 Decor Projects): Future projects include Christmas decor takedown (January 6), Valentines (February), Gala (April, TBD), Mother's Day (May), and Night of Knights (June).
Next Meetings: The next Executive PA meeting is January 14, 2025, and the next General Meeting is February 11, 2025
